Twitter permanently suspends Donald Trump’s account
It finally happened. Twitter suspended the account of Donald Trump.
Permanently.
“After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” announced Twitter.
In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action. https://t.co/NrANZJcAfo

The permanent ban follows the storming of the U.S. Capitol building by pro-Trump extremists, and action that led to five deaths.
As the siege was ongoing and in its immediate aftermath, Twitter took the action of hiding three Trump tweets and demanding their removal.
Trump eventually complied — leading to the removal of the temporary lock on his account.
However, we made it clear going back years that these accounts are not above our rules and cannot use Twitter to incite violence. We will continue to be transparent around our policies and their enforcement.

We’ve reached out to Twitter for any additional context around the ban, however a spokesperson simply pointed us back toward the above thread from @TwitterSafety.
