Twitter lists all the ‘funny’ April Fools’ Day jokes and it’s not wrong
It’s April Fools’ Day, again, and that means another predictable onslaught of bad brand jokes.
However, in a service to us all, Twitter took the time Thursday to round up all the April Fools jokes that are actually funny in a handy thread.
“a thread of funny april fools’ jokes,” wrote the company.
“end of thread,” came the only reply.
Which, yeah, pretty much.
Didn’t we all agree in 2020 to cancel April Fools’ Day? We literally begged brands last year to lay off.
Well guess what? There’s still a pandemic, and Volkswagen pretending to care about the environment wouldn’t have been funny even if there wasn’t one.
I love that we all emerged from 2020 with an unspoken agreement that April Fools is just no longer going to be accepted as fun.

April Fools is a holiday for corporations acting like people, i.e., inherently reactionary and counterrevolutionary. I will never be an April Fool and would never make an April Fools out of you.

Now, to be clear, it is possible to crack a good April Fools’ Day joke in theory. Think, harmless pranks on your close friends or loved ones that — and this part is crucial here — aren’t mean-spirited and leave you both laughing.
Brands, on the other hand, should follow Google’s lead (this is the only time you’ll seeing me arguing anyone should follow Google’s lead) and just drop the entire thing.
