This lipstick-sized gadget monitors air quality — and just went on sale
TL;DR: This handy portable air quality monitor can fit right in your pocket, and it’s $20 off in the Mashable Shop.
Hate to break it to you, but if you’re a city dweller, you’re probably breathing in way too many toxins on the daily. Heck, even if you live out in the middle of nowhere, there could be pollutants hanging around. From harmful gases to a wide range of VOCs, air pollution can pose a serious health risk to all of us. And it doesn’t look great on our skin in the meantime. That’s why the wearable, portable Atmotube Plus was created.
The Atmotube Plus looks like a tube of fancy lipstick, but in reality, it’s a portable pollution sensor. It constantly monitors the air around you, measuring the amounts of harmful gases, VOCs like acetone, methanol, benzene, formaldehyde, ethanol, etc., atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity.
This data then gets beamed to your smartphone through Bluetooth and shows you a number from 0 to 100. If it reads 100, or close to it, you’re in the clear. If it reads 0, you’re probably already dead.
Don’t worry, if the pollution reaches concerning levels, you’ll get notified instantly.
You can easily attach it to a keychain or slip it in your pocket to monitor the air wherever you go. It may even save you when the apocalypse comes.
The Atmotube Plus is usually $99, but you can save a few bucks and pick it up for $80 in the Mashable Shop while it’s on sale.
