Screens.

That’s likely the first thing you’ll notice in these images of the Porsche Taycan’s interior: Lots and lots of screens.

The Taycan, Porsche’s first all-electric sports car, will officially be unveiled on September 4, and — aside from concept images — we still don’t know how it looks from the outside. But now, Porsche has shared several images of the car’s interior, as well as the philosophy behind its design.

The basic variant of the car will have three screens: A 16.8-inch curved screen with the instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch infotainment display in the middle, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with haptic feedback in the centre console. The passenger display that’s visible in the images (Porsche didn’t say how big it was) and a rear-seat, 5.9-inch display, are optional.

Yes, better keep a few cloth wipes handy at all time, because these things are going to get smudgy.

It’s all quite nice, and if you’re a Porsche fan, you’ll appreciate the nods to the dashboard of the Porsche 911 from 1963. You’ll also be able to customize the appearance of the instrument cluster — for example, you’ll be able to choose a classic Porsche look, with rounded instrument, a mode which replaces the power meter with a map, or the pure mode which will only show essential driving information.

The car will also have a number of fancy and smart details, including full voice commands (saying “Hey Porsche” to invoke it will surely feel pretty good), a “dark mode” which turns off most of the screens to let you enjoy the drive, and an optional, “Race-Tex” leather-free (yes, that’s a thing for Porsche) interior which uses partially recycled microfibre material that uses 80 percent less CO2 than traditional materials.

Ahead of the car’s official launch, Porsche has been trickling out details about the tech it’s crammed into it. Earlier this week, the company said the Taycan will be the first car with a built-in Apple Music app, and will come with three years of free data and a six month subscription to Apple Music.
