Philips Hue‘s Outdoor Lightstrip is now officially official (it leaked last month), but unfortunately, it won’t be landing in time for summer BBQs and backyard parties.
The Outdoor Lightstrip will land in October, but pre-orders start on Aug. 20. The smaller 7-foot strip costs $89.99, and the larger 16-foot strip is $159.99. With an October launch, you’ll likely be able to light your pathways in time for Halloween. The new lightstrip will be available direct from Philips Hue, as well as other retailers.
Like the rest of the outside line by Philips Hue, weatherproofing is critical. The Outdoor Lightstrip is fully waterproof — from the product itself to its AC adapter. You can even bury the power adapter and cable underground for a sleek look.
Unlike the indoor Lightstrip, which you can cut to fit most any space, the outdoor one doesn’t accommodate that (because it would compromise the weatherproofing). You also can’t daisy-chain these strips together, so what you get is what you get.
Instead of an adhesive backside, the bendable and almost rubber-like Lightstrip will come with brackets so you can attach to a deck railing or a stake in the ground.
The Outdoor Lightstrip integrates with the Philips Hue app and Hue Sync to create spaces and light shows. Plus you can control this Lightstrip, like any Philips Hue product, with Siri, the Google Assistant, and Amazon’s Alexa.
