Steve Ballmer went wild while introducing Kawhi Leonard, Paul George
The Kenny Powers of tech execs, Steve Ballmer, busted out his signature buck wild energy at the most boring of sporting events: the press conference.
Ballmer, the former Microsoft CEO and current Los Angeles Clippers NBA team owner, is extremely, voice-crackingly stoked about some of his team’s new players. In July, the Clippers acquired NBA all-stars Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Leonard is particular cause for celebration, having led the Toronto Raptors to capture the NBA Championship this year against the Golden State Warriors.
At a press conference introducing the team’s new stars, Ballmer went off book, straying from his scripted remarks to emit a “WOOOOoooo000!” reminiscent of his wild Microsoft product debut days.
“I have these notes, but I’ve gotta say, I’m just fired up to be here today,” Ballmer said, wearing an enormous grin.
“It’s pretty cool. It’s pretty damn cool!” he said clapping with the strength of a thousand smashing trash can lids, before yelling out an enormous “WOOOO!”
“I’m PUMPED to say hello as Clippers to Paul and Kawhi,” Ballmer said, imploring the viewers to “get up if you are as psyched as I am!!!”
It turns out you can change your job, but not your whoop of joy! Ballmer’s introduction to the players sounded extremely similar to his infamous early-2000s Microsoft appearance where he also hooted, hollered, and told everyone to “GET UP!!”
Ballmer’s signature moves and yawps have been a fixture at past Microsoft events and Clippers games alike, but his Big Clips Energy really shined up on that staid podium.
He’s just a guy, standing in front of Kawhi, asking him to love him.
You keep doing you, Steve.
