Save up to 31% on a new media player at Walmart, Amazon
TL;DR: Select Roku media players are currently on sale at Walmart and Amazon for up to 31% off.
Notice anything off about your old Roku player this month? More specifically, did an error message interrupt your attempts to stream The Witcher and season 2 of You on Netflix?
That’s no fluke, unfortunately: As of Dec. 1, the popular streaming service no longer works on the first two Roku models “due to technical limitations.” (The same goes for select smart TVs that are a couple of years old.)
So does this mean you’ll never find out what happens to Geralt of Rivia and Joe “Are you John Mayer?” Goldberg? Au contraire, dear Mashable reader: Several new Roku devices are on sale at Walmart and Amazon right now, meaning you can upgrade your existing (i.e., outdated) media player for cheap. All of them offer access to more than 500,000 films and TV episodes and support the latest streaming platforms, not just Netflix — and yes, that includes Disney+ and Apple TV.
Choose from the following models:
Brand new as of this fall, the Roku Ultra is a premium media player boasting an improved quad-core processor that allows for super speedy streaming in HD, 4K, and HDR. Each unit features support for both wireless and wired connections (there’s a built-in ethernet port); includes a compatible voice remote with personal shortcut buttons; and comes with a free pair of JBL headphones for private listening.
The Roku Ultra typically retails for $99.99, but Amazon’s got it on sale right now for only $68.87 — a 31% savings.
An excellent entry-level pick, the all-new Roku Express sports a compact, inconspicuous design and supports streaming in up to 1080p HD resolution. And while it doesn’t have an ethernet port like the Roku Ultra, it does allow for an external USB connection and comes with its own high-speed HDMI cable and simple (non-voice) remote.
It’s currently on sale at both Walmart and Amazon for only $24, or 20% off its suggested retail price of $29.99.
Released in 2018, the ultra-slim Roku Premiere is basically the love child of the Ultra and Express models: It supports wireless HD, 4K, and HDR streaming just like the former, and it comes with a simple remote and HDMI cable à la the latter. It’s currently on sale for just $29 (down 27% from $39.99) at both Walmart and Amazon.
This 2017 model supports HD, 4K, and HDR picture quality and features a long-range wireless receiver that offers up to four times the WiFi range of other Roku devices — plus, it comes with a voice remote for hands-free control of your TV. You can snag it from Amazon right now for only $44.97, or 25% off its usual retail price of $59.99.
