Samsung used CES to reveal a revolution in ball technology. Ballie is, like BB-8, a rolling robot that follows you around.

According to Samsung, it can be used to patrol your home, its camera searching for burglars. That camera can also be used to capture “special moments,” said Sebastian Seung, executive vice president at Samsung Electronics. Moments like your grandmother’s bewildered face as a robot ball follows her to the bathroom in the middle of the night, or your dog right before it destroys your new toy.

Samsung also says Ballie is a fitness assistant, because nothing gets your blood pumping like being chased or chirped at by a robot.

It can also communicate with other smart devices.
