Netflix now lets you share directly to your Instagram Story
Get ready to find out a lot more about what your friends are binge-watching on Netflix.
The company announced today that the Netflix app for iOS will now let you share the films and TV shows you’re watching directly to Instagram Stories.
The feature begins rolling out to all iOS users today and is similar to Spotify’s Instagram Stories feature, which lets you share music directly to your Story.
Following a Netflix app update, “Instagram Stories” will appear as an option in the app’s share menu. Selecting Instagram Stories from the share menu will redirect you to the Instagram app, with an image of the cover art from the movie or show you’re watching.
From there, you can add your own commentary, GIF, or poll as you would with any other post to Stories. The Netflix tile will also link back to the Netflix app, so anyone who views your Story can find the movie or show to watch themselves.
The sharing feature will work with Netflix’s entire library, regardless of whether it’s a Netflix original series, and will be available globally. The feature is limited to Netflix’s iPhone app for now, but the company says it’s working on bringing the feature to Android as well (no word yet on when it will be ready, though).
For Instagram, Netflix is the latest high profile partner to directly integrate with Stories. Spotify and GoPro also have sharing features of their own.
The feature is a win-win for both companies. For Instagram, it gives its 400 million Stories users yet another reason to spend more time in the feature, which has quickly become one of the most important parts of the app. At the same time, it gives Netflix a direct line to Instagram’s massive audience and helps generate free hype for its content.
