Infiniti teases its next electric concept car
At the Auto Shanghai car show this month, Infiniti will be adding to its first foray into electric vehicles.
On Tuesday evening, the Qs Inspiration sedan was revealed as the next electric vehicle concept car from the Hong Kong-based Japanese auto maker.
Earlier this year Infiniti showed off its electric SUV concept, the QX Inspiration. The newest idea builds on the first electric vehicle from the company, but it’s a sports sedan. The new concept will be the base of a future electric production line of similar cars. The company plans to electrify all its new cars starting in 2021.
Although details were light in the teaser about the sedan, Infiniti said it would have a minimalist design with a lot of “generous” space. It helps that batteries in EVs usually lie flat on the bottom of the car body, making it easier for the car’s cabin to open up for the driver and front passenger areas.
While smaller electric SUVs are trendy – just look at the excitement over Tesla’s compact SUV Model Y that CEO Elon Musk anticipates will outsell its lower-priced sedan Model 3 – Infiniti is expanding its electrification plans to other types of cars.
Infiniti is already known for its luxury sedans like its Q50, so it’s not a huge leap to electrify a new version of its most popular vehicle. But the number of electric options is growing — especially for higher-end cars. And it’s not just Tesla.
