I’m in love with Samsung’s purple Galaxy Z Flip
Samsung is set to unveil its new foldable phone at its Galaxy Unpacked event on Feb. 11, which is two weeks away. But, thanks to official renders and specs leaked by WinFuture, we get to check out the Galaxy Z Flip in all of its glory ahead of time.
Seeing as how rumors have been circulating for a little bit now, the design comes as no surprise. But to see that it’s going to be offered in a stunning purple color has turned me into a live version of the heart eye emoji.
As my co-worker said, “We don’t have enough purple tech.” I very much agree.
I never thought I’d be a fan of foldable phones. The Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X are really cool, but, given my tiny hands, they’re uncomfortable to hold unfolded.
However, the Z Flip is cute and compact. And, the fact that it folds and unfolds vertically means that I’ll probably have no issue holding this baby with one hand.
And, to add to the old-school flip phone vibe, XDA Developers’ Max Weinbach revealed in a tweet that you can also end a call by folding the phone shut.
If you’re on a phone call and shut the display of the Galaxy Z Flip, it ends the call. This is going to be a lot of fun.

Ah, the nostalgia.
Okay, now that I’m done gushing over the design, let’s get to the specs.
The Galaxy Z Flip comes equipped with two displays. On the outside is a 1.06-inch Super AMOLED panel with 300 x 116 pixel resolution. The always-on display shows you the time and any notifications you have.
On the inside is a 6.7-inch AMOLED always-on display, with a 22:9 aspect ratio and FHD+ that features Samsung’s very own Infinity-O design found on the Galaxy S10 series. According to the leak, the display is comprised of “Ultra Thin Glass,” that’s supposedly more durable than the protective layer on the Galaxy Fold.
For Samsung’s sake, I truly hope they’ve eliminated any possibility for another Foldgate to erupt.
ICYMI: A few tech reporters who had early access to Galaxy Fold review units last year ran into some issues with the protective layer. Some thought it was a screen protector (understandable given the fact that Samsung gave zero warning) and peeled it off themselves. Others found that it was peeling on its own. Regardless, both scenarios deemed the display unusable.
However, according to XDA Developers’ Max Weinbach, the Ultra Thin Glass on the Z Flip might not protect the new foldable from the ugly crease. But, of course, we’ll have to see it for ourselves to confirm.
The Z Flip also comes with two 12-megapixel rear cameras — the main sensor and an ultra-wide angle lens. On the inside is a 10-megapixel hole-punch camera with auto focus.
Meanwhile, under the hood is last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and a 3,300mAh battery. Additionally, the phone offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. But, according to the WinFuture, it doesn’t come with a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
Price and availability information weren’t included in the leak, but given the fact that Unpacked is finally near, we won’t have to wait very long.
