How to get your stimulus payment sent directly to your PayPal account

PayPal is giving users another way to get their coronavirus relief payment.

The Internal Revenue Service is technically on track to start depositing stimulus checks into qualifying Americans’ accounts this week. More than 500,000 people in the U.S. have been infected by COVID-19, and more than 16 million have lost their jobs.

While the IRS says that most Americans don’t have to do anything to get the funds, users of PayPal Cash Plus can get the money sent directly into their accounts. This is especially useful if you pay bills through PayPal and need funds immediately.

To take advantage of the offer, PayPal users need to sign up for PayPal Cash Plus, which is a debit account linked to a debit card. It’s a free service. Once you sign up, you can reroute the stimulus payment to your PayPal account in the IRS portal.

Those who made $75,000 or less as an individual tax-payer in 2018 or 2019 should receive the full $1,200 check as part of a stimulus bill Congress passed last month. Higher-earners who made up to $99,000 will receive a reduced payout.

The company said it’s working with the U.S. Department of the Treasury to add more ways to get coronavirus checks into PayPal accounts.
