How to change the name of your iPhone
When you get a new iPhone, you’re given the opportunity to name it something unique, such as “Brian’s Awesome iPhone 12.”
But there are various reasons why you may want to change the name you assigned to your phone during setup. Thankfully, it’s incredibly easy to change the name of your iPhone. In this article, we’ll break down the reasons you may want to change the name of your iPhone, and how to do it.
Why change the name of your iPhone?
While the name of your iPhone may seem private, it can be revealed in a few situations. For instance, if you connect your iPhone to a Bluetooth device such as a car stereo, your phone’s name may be revealed on the screen. Your phone name may also be displayed in AirDrop, iCloud backups, and when it is connected to a computer.
Maybe you named your iPhone something inappropriate, and now you want to change it to something else. Maybe you just want to spice things up a bit.
Regardless of your reasoning, here’s how to change the name of your iPhone.
1. Open settings
The first thing you want to do in order to change the name of your iPhone is navigate to the Settings app. This app is probably on your home screen, but if you can’t find it, you can also swipe down on the middle of your screen to bring up your phone’s search function. From there, you can find the settings app by typing “settings” into the search bar.
2. Click on General
After you open the settings app on your iPhone, you want to open the tab labeled “General.” Here you’ll find a bunch of different settings for your phone.
3. Click About
Once you make your way to the General tab, you want to click on “About.” The About page gives you various information on your phone, such as the serial number. It’s also the page where you can change the name of your iPhone.
4. Click on Name
Once you navigate to the About page, click on Name in order to change the name of your iPhone.
5. Change the name of your iPhone
After navigating to the Name tab, you are now able to change the name of your iPhone. Select “done” to save the new name of your iPhone.
And there you have it! Whether you want your name to be more discreet or something more specific, changing the name of your iPhone is simple.
