Google’s Pixel 4a might be delayed again, without ‘Barely Blue’
At this point, it’s not shocking to hear the Pixel 4a might be delayed yet again. But in addition to pushing back the release date, Google is also reportedly nixing a color option: Baby Blue.
The news comes from well-known leaker Jon Prosser, who took to Twitter to update everyone on his latest findings regarding Google’s upcoming Pixel.

Don’t worry if you’re confused about the Pixel 4’s timeline, because we all are. Basically, it was assumed the smartphone would be announced in May — during the Google I/O developer conference, just like the 3a. Due to concerns around coronavirus, however, the tech giant decided to cancel the event entirely.
Following the cancellation, rumors pointed to a June launch instead. But in May, Prosser tweeted that Google apparently postponed the launch again to July 13. He claims that although the units are ready to ship, the decision was based marketing analysis.
He also added the device would be available in two colors: “Just Black” and “Barely Blue.” The black model was set to launch on Aug. 6, while the blue version would launch at a later date on Oct. 1.
However, as of June, Prosser revealed that Google has decided to squash the blue option entirely. Instead, it looks like we’re only getting a black version of the Pixel 4a. It’s not clear why a color option would go away if the phones are already produced and boxed, assuming Prosser’s earlier claim is true.
Oh, and to add to all that, it won’t launch until the fall. While Prosser says that the company will still announce the phone on July 13, it won’t be available until Oct. 22.
While the Pixel 3a was also available in standard colors like “Just Black” and “Clearly White,” it also came in a really fun “Purple-ish” option. So, it’s a bit disappointing to think the 4a will only be offered in one color.
While Prosser is known for being accurate with his leaks, I’m really hoping this one doesn’t turn out to be true. Thankfully, it looks like we have less than a month until we find out.
