Get your car a heads-up display on sale and snag the navigational tool of the future
Don’t GPS and drive, y’all: As helpful as they can be, smartphones are actually one of the leading causes of distracted driving accidents. Built-in routing tools and smartphone apps alike can steal your attention away from the road, whether you’re just glancing at a screen or gutsily reprogramming your route mid-drive.
But hey, it’s not like you’re going to start using MapQuest again anytime soon. There’s a reason so many people rely on GPS to get around: It’s nice to have turn-by-turn directions that adjust in real time based on your movements. That’s why we recommend picking up a heads-up display (HUD) like the HUDWAY Glass, a modern solution to car navigation that lets you view directions and the road at the same time, and safely.
Originally developed by the military for use by pilots, HUD units work by displaying digital driving directions on a transparent device that mounts on your dashboard. The HUDWAY connects to any HUD app-equipped smartphone to produce a 20% larger image from your phone. That way, you can clearly see your route and other info, like your speed and fuel consumption, without taking your eyes off the road. Pretty nifty, right? (Its Kickstarter backers thought so, too.)
We’ve featured the HUDWAY Glass in the Mashable Shop before, but this time it’s on sale for only $39.95. (For those of you keeping track at home, that’s a 20% savings on its usual price of $49.95.) Get in on this deal before it’s gone.
