TL;DR: The 16-inch MacBook Pro has Apple’s best graphics yet and just came out in Nov. 2019, but Amazon has already taken $250 off the i9 model. Get it for $2,549.
A new MacBook is kind of a Hail Mary addition to a holiday list. Whoever’s shopping for you probably isn’t about to drop $2,000 on a single gift, but you might as well add it in case, right?
Amazon is giving you a chance to gift Apple’s newest MacBook Pro to yourself for $250 off. The 16-inch MacBook Pro wants to be your 2020 sidekick for school or work stuff, music and video projects, and your binge-watching sessions of The Witcher, and you can grab the Intel Core i9, 1TB model for $2,549.
Sure, it’s still a hefty investment with only a 9% discount. But it’s notable that this MacBook, which hasn’t been out for more than a few months, is even on sale at all — considering it’s still full price at Best Buy. If it makes you feel any better, the maxed-out version of the 16-inch MacBook with all of the most expensive bells and whistles totaled at $6,099. The model on sale at Amazon still gets you the same i9 processor (the world’s fastest consumer processor), 3,072×1,920 display, and AMD Radeon Pro 5500M Graphics as the maxed out model. Plus, the $250 you save will cover a pair of AirPods Pro.
Aside from the debut of the Touch Bar, MacBook launches have more or less been about speed upgrades and brighter screens. The 16-inch MacBook Pro brings more of those expected upgrades plus so much more. The 16-inch screen is obviously a change, and that bigger coverage area also made room for six speakers for deeper bass and more natural sound, plus a new mic system with 40% hiss reduction.
Apple also alleviated some longstanding user complaints: The new Magic Keyboard uses a refined scissor mechanism with 1mm of key travel, meaning you no longer have to worry about your keys getting stuck with that damn Butterfly Keyboard.
Retailing at $2,799.99, you can save $250 and get the newest 16-inch MacBook Pro for $2,549.
