Apple Music is now available on Samsung TVs
Here’s an odd fact: Apple Music is now available on Samsung smart TVs, but not on any other brand’s sets.
It’s a bit of an odd flex for Samsung, which is a big Apple rival in terms of hardware, but it’s a win for owners of Samsung TVs, which can now launch an Apple Music app directly on their TV sets, without the need to buy a set-top box such as Apple TV.
Besides the regular Apple Music features, users will also see a section called “At Home With Apple Music,” which includes new editorial playlists as well as interviews and recorded FaceTime chats with artists at home.
There’s a catch or two, though. Apple Music is only available on Samsung TV models from 2018 to 2020. Also, while Samsung claims this is available to consumers in more than 100 countries, it’s not yet available in every country where Apple Music is available — I’ve tried it out in Croatia and the app isn’t available here.
It’s worth noting that Samsung was also the first TV manufacturer to offer the Apple TV app, which it launched last year (again, for smart TV models from 2018 onwards).
The Apple Music app is available through Samsung’s Smart TV App Store. After downloading the app, users can sign in with an existing Apple ID account, or start a new subscription process from their TVs. Samsung says that users can get a three-month trial run, but be careful, as Apple is offering a six-month trial in some of the countries and territories where it launched Apple Music a few days ago.
