AirPod dropped on train tracks rescued with clever DIY device
Ashley Mayer’s nightmare arrived on Tuesday, when one of her AirPods fell onto the New York City subway tracks.
Mayer requested help from the the subway system’s operator, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), to retrieve her wireless earbud.
“I had asked to have [the AirPod] rescued yesterday but it was going to take two hours and I had to be present,” Mayer tweeted.
Omg you guys he’s still down there ?

A day after dropping her AirPod on the track, Mayer took matters into her own hands. While another person might have jumped down into the tracks to snatch up their fallen AirPod, Mayer knew it wasn’t worth risking her life.
While I’m understandably shattered, I’m proud of myself for:
1) Not lunging after it and becoming the first ever AirPod-related subway death.
2) Still going to the gym against all odds and without entertainment!!!

With a little smart thinking, she cobbled together her own AirPod rescue tool using a broom and duct tape.
A little MacGyver-ing later, and tada:
“Security guard seems suspicious of my broom,” Mayer tweeted before putting her contraption to use.
AirPod has been thoroughly cleaned and is now recharging (literally, figuratively).
Please send thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Her broom-tape instrument didn’t look elegant, but it worked! Mayer deserves props for diving into action. Though we’re not sure we’d want to put any AirPods back into our ears if they sat on the nasty New York City subway tracks for two whole days. Let’s hope the decontamination was extensive.
