2nd-gen AirPods on sale for $139
TL;DR: The second-generation AirPods with the regular charging case have finally dropped back to $139 on Amazon — that’s a savings of $20, and the cheapest we’ve seen them since Black Friday.
It’s estimated that Apple sold around three million AirPods over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2019 weekend.
If one of those three million people wasn’t you (possibly due to Walmart selling out almost immediately), you’ve likely been scouring the internet for those same deals to pop back up. Unfortunately, finding either the AirPods 2 or AirPods Pro on sale and in stock has been a rarity since Black Friday.
But over Hanukkah and pre-Christmas weekend, Amazon sneakily dropped the latest AirPods to $139.99. Though this is still $10 more than the Black Friday price of $129, it’s a nice change from the $144.99 they’ve been priced at for weeks, and it’s a full $20 off the MSRP on Apple’s site.
The second-gen AirPods with the non-wireless charging case are your cheapest entry point into the AirPods club. But they’re still the newest version of the non-Pro AirPods: They feature a new H1 chip for 2x faster switching between an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch while music is playing and hands-free Siri voice controls. When the carrying case is opened, these smart buds automatically pair to your device. When the optical sensors notice they’ve been removed from your ear, music playback will stop — then resume when put back in. Like the OG AirPods, these have five hours of battery life, plus an additional 19 hours via the charging case.
Choosing between AirPods and AirPods Pro? The AirPods Pro retail for $249, meaning you’d be paying over $100 extra for noise cancellation and water resistance. If you’re not a total audiophile and wouldn’t be wearing these on a run in the rain, save yourself the money.
Regularly $159 and only on sale for $144 at Walmart, you can save $20 and grab the second-gen AirPods for $139 on Amazon. These are not available for same-day shipping in time for Christmas, but are available with two-day shipping with Prime.
