How to watch the 2019 Golden Globes online (or without a TV)
Want to watch this year’s Golden Globe Awards but not sure how since you’re too cheap to pony up for cable? Have no fear. There are many ways to watch the Golden Globes this year without a cable subscription — or hell, even without a TV!
Awards season officially kicks off with the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel ballroom in California, where there are sure to be some nail biters: Dick Cheney biopic Vice leads the nomination count with six, including Best Motion Picture, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Amy Adams, and Best Actor for Christian Bale, while A Star Is Born, The Favourite, and Green Book are following the pack with five nominations each. On the TV side, Homecoming and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel both have three nominations a piece. (Click here for a complete list of all the nominations.)

If you want to find out who will win during this year’s Golden Globes ceremony (not through Twitter spoilers), you’ll have to tune in at your local NBC station at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST to watch live. Killing Eve and Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg will co-host the broadcast with all sorts of stars and celebrities expected to attend.
If you don’t have an over-the-air HD antenna to watch NBC (we’ll explain that later), you can always watch the Golden Globe live on NBC’s live stream on their website and mobile app for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets with a cable TV provider login from Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T U-verse, and others.
However, if you don’t have access to broadcast channels, you can still catch the Golden Globe Awards with a number of streaming services that also offer live TV. And with the free trials they offer, you won’t have to pay a cent — just make sure to cancel before you’re charged.
Here’s how to watch the Golden Globes without cable:
1. Sling TV — Free trial available, $25/month
One of our favorite streaming services as of late, Sling TV offers an impressive selection of channels at a price point that most competitors don’t come close to touching. NBC is offered in Sling’s “The Best of Live TV” Blue package, which you can try out with a seven-day free trial for the Golden Globes. Other channels in this package are Discovery, Adult Swim, and FX.
If you’re really loving it when your trial ends, you can subscribe to Sling TV for just $25/month. Plus, get a free Roku Express when you prepay for two months of Sling TV.
2. Hulu with Live TV — Free trial available, $39.99/month
Already love Hulu? Here’s how to make it even better. Unlike Netflix, Hulu offers a live TV option that works on nearly any device to add over 50 live channels to your Hulu library. NBC is included for your Golden Globes streaming, which you can watch with the free trial. Note: Viacom channels like Nickelodeon and Comedy Central are not available, but you’re still getting a decent handful of options for the price.
If you’re really loving it when your trial ends, you can subscribe to Hulu with Live TV for $39.99/month.
3. YouTube TV — Free trial available, $40/month
Enhance your “staying up until 3 a.m. watching dumb videos) experience with YouTube’s live TV add-on. As of now, only one package exists, but it’s a good one. There are over 60 channels including NBC, with niche channels we don’t see much otherwise and premium channels that can be added for an extra fee. For the variety plus the free unlimited DVR, it’s a stellar deal.
If you’re really loving it when your trial ends, you can subscribe to YouTube TV for $40/month.
4. PlayStation Vue — Free trial available, starting at $44.99/month
If you care about premium channels like HBO and Showtime, PlayStation’s live TV subscription will be your heaven. Vue offers four packages ranging from 50 to 100 channels, streaming on five devices at once, and extra customization options – so though it’s one of the priciest, it’s not for nothing. Of course, you won’t have to pay for anything during the five-day free trial, and NBC is available in the lowest-tier “Access” package.
If you’re really loving it when your trial ends, you can subscribe to PlayStation Vue starting at $44.99/month.
5. DirecTV Now — Free trial available, $40/month
Possibly the biggest and baddest in the game, DirecTV Now is DirecTV’s no-satellite-needed live TV service that offers the biggest number of channels — so you’ll be getting the royal treatment during your seven-day trial. There are four packages available and it can get pricey out there, but for the Golden Globes, you’ll only need the lowest-tier plan that includes NBC and 65 other channels.
If you’re really loving it when your trial ends, you can subscribe to DirecTV Now starting at $40/month.
6. fuboTV — Free trial available, $44.99/month
For movie junkies who double as sports obsessives, fuboTV’s sports-heavy packages are unbeatable. Though FuboTV is ideal for the avid sports watcher with niche interests, there are also all of the traditional channels that the rest of the household will want, like HGTV, SYFY, and of course, NBC. There’s only one package to choose from, so you’ll want to the seven-day trial to make sure it’s what you want.
If you’re really loving it when your trial ends, you can subscribe to fuboTV starting at $44.99/month.
If the free trial thing sounds like too much work for a single award show (or if you’ve already taken advantage of them with too many fake alternate emails), an HD antenna is a risk-free solution that will last way longer than a seven-day trial. A must-have for any cord cutter, these flat devices simply hang on the wall or a nearby window and pick up over-the-air channels like ABC, CBS FOX, and NBC, all for free.
Amazon has an overwhelming selection, but this one from U MUST HAVE has over 2,000 five-star ratings and is budget-friendly at just $27.95.
