Everything coming to HBO Max in August 2020
HBO Max is loading its catalog with new TV shows and films this August.
Need a new TV show? Selena Gomez will be trying out her cooking skills in Selena + Chef, while Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness will see the actor exploring cultures across the world. Additionally, DC’s Doom Patrol, crime drama Perry Mason, dramedy I May Destroy You, and docuseries I’ll Be Gone in the Dark will each cap off their seasons with a finale.
In terms of films, HBO Max will be showing recent hits including Birds of Prey, Jojo Rabbit, and The Way Back. Want something totally new? Try An American Pickle, a comedy-drama in which Seth Rogen plays an immigrant from 1919 from who meets his computer programmer great-grandson (also played by Rogen) in the present day. You could also watch Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn, a documentary about the tragic murder of a Black teenager in 1989 New York.

Top Pick: Lovecraft Country
Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams teamed up with Misha Green to produce Lovecraft Country, a new drama horror series about a young Black man named Atticus who journeys across the United States in the 1950s in hopes of tracking down his missing father. However, in addition to facing endless racism, Atticus must also confront a group of terrifying monsters.
If the 10-episode series is anything like the trailer, it’s bound to be one chilling adventure. The spooky music, sharp camera angles, and looming terrors have captured our attention.
How to watch: Lovecraft Country begins streaming Aug. 16 on HBO Max.
