How to pre-order Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite
Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.
Amazon has three new Kindle Paperwhites coming out Oct. 27:
Apple isn’t the only tech giant rolling out some surprise releases this month, apparently.
For the first time since 2018, Amazon has announced not one but *three* new additions to its popular Kindle Paperwhite lineup: the next-generation Kindle Paperwhite, the upgraded Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, and the brand new Kindle Paperwhite Kids. All three devices feature 6.8-inch displays with warmer glare-free screens, improved battery lives of up to 10 weeks, speedy USB-C charging, and some updated hardware for better performance (including 20 percent faster page turns).
Amazon has also rolled out a complete redesign of the Kindle interface and library with easier navigation, different ways to filter and sort your ebooks, an interactive scroll bar, and a new simplified setup option.
This new ream of Paperwhites won’t start shipping until Oct. 27, but in the meantime, you can pre-order them on Amazon starting… now.

With an adjustable warm light and a new white-on-black dark mode, the new Paperwhite is super easy on the eyes (even under crappy lighting conditions). It also comes with an IPx8 rating for protection against accidental drops in shallow water, which is great news for anyone who considers reading in the bathtub one of life’s greatest pleasures.
Pre-ordering the standard model will run you $139.99, while the ad-free version is going for $159.99. Both come with 8GB of storage and four free months of Kindle Unlimited, Amazon’s ebook and audiobook subscription service (a $39.96 value).
The Paperwhite Signature Edition automatically adapts the brightness of its display based on the lighting around you.

The premium Paperwhite *Signature Edition* adds an auto-adjusting light sensor and wireless charging to the mix; the latter is a first for the Kindle series. Opt for this one if you’re an especially avid reader: It comes with four times the storage of the regular Paperwhite (32GB, to be exact).
Snag a preorder for $189.99 and you’ll get that free four-month trial of Kindle Unlimited, too.
Choose from three case styles: Black, Robot Dreams (left), or Trees (right).

Packed with literacy-building tools for young readers ages seven and up, the new Paperwhite Kids has the honor of being the first-ever waterproof Kindle for little kids. Like Amazon’s other kid-friendly tablets, it comes with a durable case, a two-year worry-free guarantee, built-in parental controls, and a bonus one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ (normally $2.99 a month), which unlocks a massive library of age-appropriate ebooks and audiobooks.
Reserve one in your pick of three styles for $159.99 — there’s plain a Black one, a cherry “Robot Dreams” design, and a serene “Trees” pattern up for grabs.
