How to pre-order Amazon’s new $60 smart thermostat
Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.
PREORDER: Amazon’s new Smart Thermostat comes out Nov. 4, and you can reserve one ahead of time for just $59.99.
Your move, Nest: Amazon introduced a new Alexa-enabled smart thermostat at its annual hardware event this week (among a bunch of other gadgets), and it’s priced at only $59.99.
For comparison’s sake, Google’s popular Nest thermostats usually go for at least double that; the entry-level Nest Learning Thermostat retails for $130, and we’ve never seen it go on sale for less than $99.98.
The aptly named Amazon Smart Thermostat is scheduled to go live in just over a month — Nov. 4, to be exact — but you can pre-order one directly from its manufacturer in the meantime.
Alexa, crank the AC.

Made in partnership with Honeywell Home, the Energy Star-certified Smart Thermostat works with most HVAC systems, so setup is easy. (You’ll just need a C-wire or a power adapter kit; guided instructions are provided in the Alexa app.) You’ll be able to control it using that same app or with another Alexa-enabled device, though it also supports Amazon’s “Hunches” feature for a truly hassle-free user experience. When enabled, that gives it free rein to adjust the temperature based on your presumed routine — like when it thinks you’re away from home or in bed, for example.
Design-wise, the Smart Thermostat is made from 33% post-consumer recycled plastics and comes in plain, boring white. (We’ll throw Nest one bone: Its colorful metallic thermostats are way prettier.)
