TL;DR: The third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat has been on sale in the PCMag Shop for a hot second, but you can save an additional $50  through Sunday by entering the code 50OFF at checkout.

The first day of summer marked the official start of air conditioning season, although it might be more appropriate to call it air *pollution* season: With everyone’s units running on full blast amid swelling temperatures, power plants are being pushed to their operational limits and thus crank out far more harmful greenhouse gases than usual. It’s basically the exact opposite of chill.

But that’s not to say you should spend the next three months drenched in sweat for the sake of the planet — a noble cause, to be sure, but also a gross and miserable one. You just need to make your cooling system more efficient, which is as easy as installing a smart thermostat.

Nest, now known as Google Nest as of this month, is a smart thermostat manufacturer we’ve plugged here before. We like their devices for a couple reasons: One, they blend in well with most home decor — a rarity among thermostats until very recently. Two, they’re so energy-efficient that many local utility companies will give you a sizable rebate for merely installing one in your home. And three, it’s not difficult to find them on sale.

Over in the PCMag Shop (owned by Mashable’s publisher, Ziff Davis), for example, the $249.99 MSRP of Nest’s third-generation Learning Thermostat has been lowered for some time. Plus, there’s a special deal this weekend where you can save an additional $50 now through Sunday just by entering the code 50OFF at checkout. (See? That was easy.)

The Nest Learning Thermostat is “smart” in the mainstream sense of the word in that it can be controlled wirelessly via mobile app or voice control. (It supports both Amazon Alexa and the Google Home.) But beyond that, it can actually learn your temperature preferences and adapt to build a schedule around them — easing off the AC when you leave your house, and cranking it up again when you return. As such, you’ll be saving way more energy and reducing your carbon footprint while shaving some serious bucks off your electric bill — around $131 to $145 a year (!), according to Nest’s estimates.

Visit the PCMag Shop to get the Nest Learning Thermostat for just $189.99 with the code 50OFF.
