Huawei P30 Pro comes to Canada at a surprisingly reasonable price
Huawei’s latest flagship phone, the P30 Pro, isn’t coming to the U.S. anytime soon.
A Huawei rep wouldn’t confirm it outright during my pre-brief of the device in London last week, but he did say the U.S. consumers will “find ways” to bring it to the country, and one specific country’s name was quietly dropped: Canada.
Now, the Huawei P30 Pro is actually available for pre-order in Canada, at significantly lower prices than in Europe.
The pricing in Canada varies by carrier/retailer, but the best deal I’ve found is 1,099 CAD or $818 for the P30 Pro with 128GB of storage and 899 CAD ($670) for the P30 with 128GB.
That’s a way better deal than Huawei’s recommended prices in Europe, which are 999 euros ($1,127) and 799 euros ($901) for the equivalent P30 Pro and P30 variants, respectively.
Even better, Huawei gives away a Huawei Watch GT smartwatch (said to be 299 CAD or $223 value) for free to everyone who pre-orders the phone.
Note that, in Canada, the P30 and the P30 Pro are only available in Breathing Crystal and Black colors. The Aurora and the new Amber Sunrise colors, as well as White, are nowhere to be seen.
Android Central noticed that the company now offers a third variant of the phone in Canada, the Huawei P30 Lite. Huawei made no mention of this device, and it’s available at fewer retailers with the price tag of 449 CAD or $335.
While that price sounds incredible, the Huawei P30 Lite is a very different device than the P30 and the P30 Pro — it’s powered by a weaker, Kirin 710 chip and has a 6.15-inch LCD screen (instead of OLED). It also has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage memory, and 3,340mAh battery. It’s got the 32-megapixel selfie camera like its more powerful brothers, but the triple rear camera is a far more plebeian 24/8/2-megapixel combo without the periscope telephoto lens.
Buyers who pre-order the Huawei Pro Lite also get a gift, albeit a slightly less valuable one: a free Huawei Band 3 Pro wearable (a 99 CAD or $74 value) .
I haven’t had time to properly review the P30 Pro yet, but from the time I’ve spent with it, it’s a formidable device with top-notch specs and a very good camera — possibly the best smartphone camera out there. At these prices, it sounds like a pretty good deal.
