Surprise — this is an iPhone pre-order post.
We’ll cut right to the chase.
Pre-orders for the iPhone XS and XS Max began at 3:10 am EST on Friday, Sept. 14. (Regular sales begin on Sept. 21.) If you’re trying to not spend out the ass, the cheaper iPhone XR will be available for pre-order in October. Halloween present, I guess?
You’ll be getting money off in most of the pre-order deals, so keep in mind that the regular prices that will be discounted are as follows:
-
iPhone XS, 64GB: $999
-
iPhone XS, 256GB: $1,149
-
iPhone XS Max, 64GB: $1,099
-
iPhone XS Max, 256GB: $1,249
Anyway, here’s the stuff you actually care about:
BOGO, y’all. Mix and match basically any phone you want including the iPhone XS, XS Max, X, 8, or 8 Plus and get $700 off the second one when you add a new line to your plan. With this deal, you’ll get a $29.16 credit added to your bill each month over the next two years. (So you’re paying full price for both phones and then getting your money back, a little bit at a time.) If you choose the cheaper 64 GB model of the iPhone 8 instead of the 256 GB, you’ll obviously get a slightly larger credit applied.

If you’d rather just trade in your old phone, you can get $100 off the XS or XS Max (or any new iPhone, really) when you hand over an old phone that’s in decent condition. Accepted trade-ins include the older iPhones back to the 5 and SE, old Google Pixels, a ton of old Motorola Z Forces, Turbos, the old Samsung Galaxy phones back to the GS4, Galaxy Notes back to the Note 4, and the HTC 9 and 10. That credit will also come over the next 24 months.
AT&T also has a nice (limited time) BOGO deal going on, similar to Verizon: When you buy an XS, you’ll get another XS for $700 off if you get them both on AT&T Next. It requires you to add a new line to your Next plan, and it’ll be applied over the next 30 months. To spend less, you can choose to make your second device the iPhone 8 and get the 64GB 8 or 8 Plus for free.
You can also get that $700 credit toward the more expensive iPhones including the 256 GB iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, or XS Max. They won’t be free, but you’ll save a significant chunk.
T-Mobile is only offering trade-in deals, but they’re pretty sweet: When you pre-order the iPhone XS or XS Max or buy the X, 8, or 8 Plus and add it to a monthly payment plan, you can save up to $300 over 24 months when you give them your old phone.
How much you save depends on which phone you trade in, and they obviously have to be in good condition. Get $300 back with an iPhone 8, 7, or 7 Plus, $200 back with a 6S or 6S Plus, and $100 back with a 6, 6 Plus, 5, 5S, 5C, or Se. For each, you’ll get a $12.50 credit on your monthly bills until you hit your full payback.
Another limited time trade-in gig. Pay $0 per month when you buy the 64 GB iPhone XS or $4.17 per month for the 64 GB XS Max, both with an eligible trade in. Accepted phones include the iPhone back to the 7, Samsung Galaxy back to the S8, Samsung Galaxy Note8, and the Google Pixel 2. Depending on the value of the trade-in, you’ll see $41.67 credited to your account for both 64 GB models of the iPhone XS and XS Max, applied in two billing cycles. Like the other carries, you’ll have to purchase the devices on a plan (18-month lease here), with a new line and approved credit.
Sprint is also offering $100 off each new line when you switch to Sprint and lease a new smartphone. That credit comes in the form of a pre-paid $100 Mastercard and requires online registration as well as two months of service before the card is shipped.
Walmart is also getting in on the action: If you don’t want to pay now but want to confirm that you’ll have an XS or XS Max in your hands, Walmart can put you on a wait list. Just choose from AT&T, Verizon, or Straight Talk as well as your storage capacity and color to reserve your new baby.
The most affordable of the new bunch, the XR, won’t be available for another month, because Apple knows people will wait to save as much as possible. If you can be patient, you can pre-order this bad boy starting on Oct. 19. Prices for the iPhone XR start at $749 for 64 GB, slide up to $849 for double the storage at 128 GB, and end up at $899 for the max amount of storage at 256 GB. Not bad.
Oh yeah, and you’re gonna want to protect that new phone like it’s a newborn child: To see all of the new iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR cases that have already been rolled out, go here.
If you care about the Apple Watches at all, the new Apple Watch 4 can also be pre-ordered at Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint.
