Casey Neistat now wonders if he made the right decision releasing his Logan Paul interview

Two of YouTube’s most popular creators sat down for an conversation about one’s fall from grace.

Casey Neistat, who is approaching 10 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, just uploaded a 30-minute video where he talks to controversial YouTube star Logan Paul in an in-depth interview. 

The topic of the conversation: Logan Paul’s notorious “suicide forest” video, the one that stoked worldwide outrage and caused YouTube to place monetization sanctions on his channel — a channel that currently has nearly 18 million subscribers.

Logan Paul has been on a sort of redemption tour over the past few months. After the suicide forest video was posted and subsequently removed from YouTube in January, Paul apologized for his actions and took a short break. He’s in the midst of filming a documentary about what was going through his mind when filming the controversial video.

When Paul asked Neistat to be in this documentary, Neistat agreed, but only in return for an interview for his channel. Paul obliged.

At times during the conversation, it seems that Logan Paul may now understand what was wrong with his previous actions, explaining how he got caught up in the social media machine. “I forgot to be a human being in that situation and instead decided to be a content creator,” Paul says.

At other times, it seems Paul has no understanding of what he has done wrong. During a discussion surrounding the other problematic issues with his YouTube videos, Paul gets defensive and argues about what is and isn’t culturally insensitive.

Just as interesting as the interview is Casey Neistat’s explanation right before it, explaining why he wanted to interview Paul in the first place.

Neistat says he was unsure Paul had really changed. Along with the apology video, since returning, Paul has also uploaded videos that were right in line with his old ways. From a video upload where he films the aftermath of a car crash to outlandish promotions for a boxing match Paul is partaking in against another YouTube star, Neistat wanted to figure out was going on. As Neistat claims, Logan Paul’s actions have harmed the YouTube creator community as a whole. 

After the interview, Neistat struggled with his decision to publish it. “To be totally honest I wasn’t sure, I’m still not sure, if releasing it is the right thing,” said Neistat in his video. “My very specific intention with this interview was to see if he was sincere about what he’s trying to accomplish with this documentary or if the whole thing is just a charade for good PR and now I feel like watching this interview over and over and over I still I don’t know I there’s a little bit of me that thinks maybe I’m enabling Logan.”

While Neistat’s intentions seem pure and good-natured, Paul’s remain unclear.
