Oppo Ace 2 has crazy-fast wireless charging
Oppo’s Reno Ace smartphone, launched in Oct. 2019, has the distinction of having the fastest wired charging tech out there — its 4,000mAh battery charges from 0 to 100 percent in less than 30 minutes.
Now, the successor to that phone, the Oppo Ace 2 (the Reno moniker apparently got lost somewhere along the way), is breaking barriers again, albeit this time with speedy wireless charging.
Oppo claims the Ace 2’s 40W wireless charging technology, called AirVOOC, can charge the phone’s 4,000mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in 56 minutes.
This, however, requires an optional wireless charger with a built-in fan, which helps the phone stay reasonably cool while charging.
The Oppo Ace 2 also has 65W wired charging, which can charge the phone’s battery from 0 to 100 percent in 30 minutes.
If true — I won’t know until I test it, but with the original Reno Ace, the real world results were even better than Oppo’s claims — these figures would make the Ace 2 the fastest smartphone around when it comes to charging. Its nearest competitor, Huawei’s P40 Pro+, also has 40W wireless charging, but it comes without Google services, so it’s not very interesting to buyers outside of China.
Notably, OnePlus, which has ties to Oppo, will launch its OnePlus 8 flagship today, which will likely have 30W wireless charging.
The Oppo Ace 2 is a pretty decent smartphone specs-wise, with a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 8/12GB of RAM, 128/256GB of storage, a 48/8/2/2-megapixel quad rear camera, and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. I’m sad to report that, unlike the Oppo Reno Ace, the new Ace 2 doesn’t have a headphone jack, but it does have stereo speakers.
The Oppo Ace 2 starts at 3,999 yuan in China, or $570, and is available for pre-order now, with an April 20 launch date.
