Hot Wheels unveils $400 remote-controlled Tesla Cybertruck
Back in November, Tesla CEO Elon Musk set Twitter aflame with his company’s bizarre new Cybertruck.
If you’re the kind of person who wants a Cybertruck in your life but doesn’t know if they actually need a gigantic truck that looks like a rejected Halo Warthog prototype, we’ve got great news.
Mattel announced Friday morning that it’s developing two remote-controlled Hot Wheels toys based on the Cybertruck. There’s a tiny 1:64 scale model for $20 and a bigger 1:10 one for $400. Yes, you can pay $400 for an RC car based on a meme truck. We live in outstanding times.
You can pre-order both models now and get your hands on them starting in December. Be warned that anyone who wants one should sign up sooner rather than later; these are limited run items and their stock won’t be refreshed once they’re all gone. They’re also only shipping to the United States and Canada.
Honestly, good on Tesla for finding a way to get the Cybertruck back in the news four months after its announcement rocked social media for multiple days. The vaguely Blade Runner-looking truck does look quite a bit less ridiculous as a toy and not, you know, a real car people expect to drive when it ships in 2021.
And hey, $20 and $400 are a lot less than the nearly $40,000 the real thing costs if you absolutely must have a Cybertruck in your life. Maybe we’ll get one of the toy versions and take a hammer to it to see if it’s any more durable than its big brother.
