Facebook Portals are $50 off for Cyber Monday
TL;DR: Smart Facebook Portals are on sale for $50 off, starting at $79.
Facebook introduced the Portal smart video calling device as a competitor to Amazon’s Echo Show. Though the two are similar in features, people have been more reluctant to purchase Facebook’s version because of the company’s iffy history with privacy.
If you’re an avid Facebook user and trust good ol’ Zuck, you might be interested in the Portal’s Cyber Monday deals. Both the full-sized 10-inch and the mini eight-inch versions are $50 off, dropping the prices to $129 and $79 respectively.
The 10-inch is the same size the the standard Echo Show, but is $20 cheaper right now. The Portal is equipped with a smart camera that pans and zooms to follow the action, keeping you in frame. That is something the Echo Show doesn’t do.
With the Portal, you can enjoy AR features that spice up your video chats. You also get all the smart home features you’d expect.
The eight-inch Portal is comparable to the Echo Show 8 and is currently on sale for the same Cyber Monday price of $79. Like the larger model, this mini Portal keeps up with you as you move during a video call.
Honestly, unless you really love the moving camera and Facebook aspects of the Portal, we suggest opting for the Echo Show 8. (Granted, it is out of stock until December 20 at the moment, so if you’re wanting a smart video display now, the mini Portal is a solid second choice.)
